Mackenzie Homes is pleased to announce that we have completed the unconditional acquisition of the Grade II listed Stoke House in Stoke Poges.
Stoke House was designated as Grade II in 1985 and an extract from the Historic England website describes it as a former preparatory school built in 1821 by Hartleys of Wexham. In 1836, the building was owned by Reverend John Evans and occupied by him and his family. It is clear from the census records of 1841 that it was in use as a school and had a number of pupils. During the 1860’s the building became a family house however during 1870’s it was once more served the purpose as a school until the first world war. In 1899 the school was expanded and additional buildings added to the site. In 1913 the building was used as a P.O.W. camp. During WWII it was used as a war office. In 1946 the building was used as an office for ‘Bestobell Ltd’. Between the 1960’s and 1980’s various alterations were carried out to both the main house, out buildings and car park. In the 1980’s the building changed hands with ‘International Hospitals Group’ The site has remained largely unchanged since the 1980’s.
Planning permission has already been granted for the change of use of Stoke House into six residential apartments. Our aim is to preserve and enhance the Grade II Listed Building by sensitively restoring historic features of the building and its setting. With completion being targeted for 2023, potential home owners will soon be able to enjoy the historic features in their new boutique home.
