LOCAL DEVELOPER SUPPORTS GOOD CAUSES

Mackenzie Homes Team in Slough gives up its time to support Home Start and Age Concern.

The team at Mackenzie Homes have been getting into the Christmas spirit this month by supporting a number of local charity events, which have taken place over recent weeks. The Slough based housebuilder pledged its support to both Home Start Slough and Age Concern Slough - with staff from across the business taking time out of their working day to participate in events, organised by the charities.

Last week, on Thursday 13th December the Mackenzie Homes team were giving Christmas Hampers to the families and children at the Home Start Christmas Party at St Andrew’s Methodist Church. The team participated in a fun filed day of festive arts and crafts as well as helping to prepare the lunch for the many children and their families, who were attending the event.

This week, on Tuesday 18th December the team gave out Christmas Hampers to the elderly at the Age Concern Slough Christmas Lunch, which took place at Wexham Court Parish Hall.

The team have been busy shopping for all the items for the hampers over recent weeks and then assembled the Christmas Hampers for each event over a festive Mulled wines and mince pies.

Taj Sangha, Director, Mackenzie Homes: “With our head office based in Slough and our town centre development Vanburgh Court now selling, it was really important to us to ensure that we are giving back to the community, within which we are based. We have a great team at Mackenzie and it was fantastic to see so many staff members volunteering their time to some great, local causes.”

A NIGHT OF COMEDY, CRICKET & CURRY WITH YUVRAJ SINGH & HARDEEP SINGH KOHLI

Mackenzie Homes is delighted to be hosting a charity evening in aid of The Yuvraj Singh Foundation, a non-profit organisation created by Yuvraj Singh, to support and educate people and families affected by cancer.

YSF was founded after Yuvraj was diagnosed with cancer. During his personal battle he discovered that information concerning this terrible disease was often scarce.  YSF has 3 key objectives - the first being the detection of the disease and spreading awareness about the early symptoms of cancer, the second, funding education for underprivileged cancer survivors and the third key area of concern being funding treatment for underprivileged patients. Although substantial development here has been slow, YSF do keep an eye on paving the right path for the patients looking for a direction in treatment and guiding them to the right hospitals and cancer treatment centres.

YUVRAJ SINGH FOUNDATION

The Yuvraj Singh Foundation is a non-profit organisation (registered under the Bombay Trust Act 1950) created by Yuvraj Singh in Mumbai to support and educate people and families affected by cancer and has been active since 2012. Yuvraj Singh started YSF after he was diagnosed with cancer in 2011 and underwent treatment for it. His mother, Shabnam Singh, who has been his biggest support during this tough time, along with Yuvraj, learnt many facts about the disease and its treatments that are not commonly known. They realised that the knowledge of these facts can save lives. Since then it became their mission to share the knowledge and extend their support especially to the underprivileged adults and children who have been diagnosed with this life-threatening disease. Yuvraj Singh Foundation operates under three key objectives, the first one being Detecting and spreading awareness about the early symptoms of Cancer. Further to that, YSF funds education for underprivileged cancer survivors. On World Cancer Day, Yuvraj Singh Foundation announced “#togetherwecan” an initiative to provide monitory help in the same direction. Third key area of concern being funding treatment for underprivileged patients. We have not yet made any substantial development here though; however, we do keep an eye on paving the right path for the patients looking for a direction in treatment and guiding them to the right hospitals and cancer treatment centres.

Detection & Awareness camps

Yuvraj Singh Foundation launched an initiative YOUWECAN whose key goal is to raise awareness about cancer. Under this initiative, it conducts regular cancer awareness programs which include the causes, symptoms, benefits of screening, early detection and how healthy lifestyle choices can decrease the risk of getting cancer. YOUWECAN also aims to eradicate the stigma attached to cancer through these programs and speaking sessions led by reputed oncologists. Either directly or through tie-ups, Yuvraj Singh Foundation has been conducting mobile cancer examination stations in rural areas.

YouWeCan endeavours to ensure that cancer is detected at an early stage for one and all and that no one must fight cancer alone. YouWeCan endeavours to create awareness about healthy lifestyle choices that prevent cancer, early detection and the fight against stigma.

Fund Education for Underprivileged

Often families of the cancer patients and survivors exhaust all their savings during the prolonged treatment and are left with little or no money to fund their children’s education. The idea behind this initiative is to support the education of young cancer patients and survivors who belong to the underprivileged section of the society and help them in securing their future. Yuvraj Singh Foundation will be raising funds through many channels and the money raised will be utilized to give scholarships to cancer survivors for their primary and higher education.

Treatment for Underprivileged patients

Yuvraj Singh Foundation also believes that no one should have to face cancer alone. The cost of the screening test is minimal, whereas the cost of treatments is extremely high in comparison. But for the underprivileged, even this small amount may seem too much. YWC campaigns relentlessly for affordable and inclusive cancer screening and treatment for underprivileged patients. Additionally, YOUWECAN offers cancer survivors a holistic approach to getting back control of their lives.

Ms. Shabnam Singh, who has been the biggest supporter of Yuvraj Singh throughout his ordeal, is the inspiring spirit behind the YouWeCan team. YouWeCan, as a team, is group of motivated volunteers who wish to make a difference.
To further support the initiative and make it a self-sustaining identity Yuvraj Singh launched YWC the Fashion label in 2016. The proceeds from YWC Fashion go to the foundation to conduct the awareness programs, fund education and treatments of underprivileged cancer survivors.
